How To Check Fridge Temperature Without Thermometer Information

Everyone that lives in a home or apartment will have a fridge that they will store their foods in to keep them cool.  The fridge will need to be at a certain temperature in order to keep the foods from spoiling.  When the fridge temperature is right, foods can last a while without a person having to throw them out because they are no longer good to eat.

What Happens If Food Goes Bad In A Fridge?

If the fridge is not at the right temperature and the food spoils, a person can get very sick from eating it.  They will get food poisoning.  This is why it’s so important to have the fridge set at the right temperature so that the food is still good to eat.

How To Check The Temperature

In most cases, the fridge gets the cold air from the freezer.  The air circulates from the freezer into the fridge via vents.  It’s important to make sure that the vents are not blocked so that the fridge will become cold enough.  There are controls that can be set to keep foods at the right temperature.  0 – 5 degrees for the freezer and 38 for the fridge.  A great way to measure it is by using a cup of water with a cooking thermometer put inside it and placing this into the fridge for 2 hours of time.  When testing the freezer, a person should substitute cooking oil in place of water.

Most Refrigerators Come With A Built-In Thermometer

Most of the newer refrigerators come with a built-in thermometer so that people know that their food is being kept cold correctly.  If they don’t have one, they can make their own thermometer.  This is done by using water to determine if it is at the right temperature to keep your foods cold.  Since this can give an approximate temperature, it’s always best to get a thermometer.

Checking Temperature With A Container Of Water

You can put a container of water in the fridge to check the temperature.  After a couple of hours, you will want to take a look at the container of water.  You will want to look for condensation.  If the condensation appears quickly that means that the water is very cold.  If ice appears, the fridge is too cold.  It is supposed to be at 38 degrees.  You will want to adjust your controls to make it less cold.  This will give you a way to judge the fridge temperature until you are able to get a thermometer.  The thermometer is the best way to tell if it is correct so that you can keep your food good for as long as possible.

People should invest in a modern fridge when they can but if they have one that doesn’t have a thermometer in it, they can still make sure that their foods are being kept cold.  This is important so that they will be able to feel confident in eating the foods that they have stored in it.
