How To Replace A Dishwasher Drain Hose In 10 Steps

When you have a problem and need to fix a leaking dishwasher or a leaking drain hose, it may need to be replaced using a part that is approved by the manufacturer. You need to follow this guide for the dishwasher repair showing how to go about replacing the drain hose that will be connecting the drain pump and the drain line carrying water to the sink drain. The dishwasher drain hose replacement procedure works well for Kenmore, KitchenAid, Whirlpool, JennAir, Maytag and Amana dishwashers. For some models of Electrolux, Samsung, Frigidaire and GE dishwashers, you can also apply the same basic steps to replace the dishwasher drain hose.

Shutting off the electrical power and water supply lines to the dishwasher

Completely disconnecting your dishwasher from the electrical power supply is important to avoid any chance of electrical shock. You can do that using the house circuit breaker switch or if your home has a fuse box you can remove the fuse. make sure the control panel’s display can’t be activated to confirm that the dishwasher has been disconnected from electrical power. Locate the water supply valve either below the sink or in the basement to shut it off and make sure no water is going into the dishwasher.

Removing the front access or kick panel at the bottom and then the toe panel

Using a screwdriver you can remove the screws holding the front access panel or the service kickplate in place at the bottom just under the door of the dishwasher. You can then remove and set it aside as well as the toe panel right behind it.

Pulling up the dishwasher away from the cabinet

There is a junction box at the front side of the dishwasher right behind where you removed the front access panel. The cover of the junction box should be removed and the wires disconnected. After this you can remove the screws on the brackets that are securing the dishwasher in the cabinet’s opening, then go ahead with pulling out the dishwasher to bring it to the front of the opening of the cabinet.

Disconnecting the old drain hose from the drain pump

By reaching under your dishwasher and squeezing the wire hose clamp that is normally holding the drain hose to the drain pump, you will be able to pull the end of the drain hose and set it free from the drain pump.

Removing the old drain hose from the dishwasher’s water inlet assembly

Inside the dishwasher tub, there is a plastic nut that is used for securing the water inlet assembly and will need to be removed using a pair of channel lock pliers. The drain hose is secured by the water inlet assembly to a panel on the left of the dishwasher tub.The water inlets assembly first needs to be pulled out in order to release the old drain hose from the bracket.

Disconnecting the old drain hose from the drain line to the sink

Other than the dishwasher drain hose that normally extends to the drain pump, there is another drain hose going to the kitchen sink drain that will need to be separated from the dishwasher drain hose. After that you may be able to pull out the drain hose beneath your dishwasher before discarding it.

Connecting your dishwasher’s new drain hose

Secure the new drain hose using a wire clamp back to the drain pump outlet and do it properly to make sure it doesn’t leak. The routing of your new drain hose should be done in the same manner through the water inlet bracket just like the original drain hose had been done. Make another secure connection to the drain hose going today kitchen sink drain to the new drain hose you have just installed.

Re-installation of the water inlet bracket

The water inlet bracket bracket should again be positioned on the side of the dishwasher tub before putting back the plastic screw to the bracket inside of the dishwasher tub.

Re-installation of the dishwasher

You will need to push back the dishwasher carefully into the opening of the cabinet, then reconnecting the electrical wires back into the junction box making sure its cover is reinstalled as well. The toe panel as well as front access panel should be put back in their place.

Secure the dishwasher with screws and mounting brackets back into the counter.

Restoration of water and electrical power supply connections

Finally, just restore your water and electrical power supply and your dishwasher should be ready for use once again.
